My pride and joy

Several months ago (pre-pregnancy) I found an ad on KSL for free garden planting land. I have always wanted a garden, and we have a cute little backyard but it doesn't give full sun to my plants, so I can only plant shade plants. So I called this guy up, and his land was right down the street from my work! Voila... I planted my dream garden......

Oh...can't see the actual plants?? Yeah I couldn't either. Right after Andrew and I planted everything I found out I was pregnant and avoided this garden for several weeks..... then somehow I convinced my sweet little brother to come help me tackle it one Saturday (Sat being the only morning I can get there early enough to where I don't sweat to death, and conveniently for Andrew, he works Saturday mornings...so he was unable to help, I'm sure he was crushed, jk baby!) So bargaining two McDonalds Breakfast burritos later, Dallin and I tackled the beast. Anyone heard of choking weeds?? Pretty much my worst enemy. Dallin was such a good sport. I couldn't have done it without him.
2 sunburnt faces, 4 scraped up arms, and 3 hours of hard pioneer labor later....and there are my 8 tomato plants, 5 Zuccini plants, 6 squash plants, some beets, and a few melons!! Too bad I wore myself out so much that I didn't feel up to using our Stadium of Fire tickets that night :(
A few weeks later, and all the plants have doubled in size, and today, I picked my first of what should be a great harvest!! We had steamed zuccini and squash tonight, with a little butter, salt and pepper!! MMMMmmmmmm My favorite!! And it tasted so much better, knowing that it was home grown!!! Few things in life make me feel more accomplished than having my own garden, and enjoying the vegetables of my labor. Andrew and I love all vegetables, so I think we'll always have a garden.
Nevermind that now the weeds are growing back....and I am sharing the land with a professional farmer, whose garden out shines mine everyday. But hey I'm pregnant, and if I even get a handful of tomatoes this year and some squash, I'll be happy. :)
