My sweet Great Grandma Ahrens passed away! She was 92 years old, and as sad as it was to have her leave us, it was also a happy day; because my Great Granpda Ahrens passed away 15 years ago!!! That's a LONG time to be away from the love of your life!! I would be so sad not being with Andrew for that long.
The last 2 years of her life she lived in the same home as my Grandparents (Hawkins) They took such AMAZING care of her!!! Soooo much service and love was given to make her as comfortable as possible. I will always look up to their example.
I love my great Grandma so much! She was such a sweet little lady! she always had so much love to give, and would just squeeze you and give you a kiss whenever you would let her. She was soo cute to Boston!! She would whistle to him, and let him play with her yarn. She was ALWAYS knitting or making something for someone.
One of my fondest memories was about ten years ago I stayed a whole weekend at her home! We went to the store and bought fabric to make all 3 of my brothers a quilt, and we tied and finished 3 quilts in one weekend, while talking and enjoying each other's company. She also taught me how to make cowboys delight. ha
She was an amazing lady, and grew up in a time when you had to work HARD!!! Farming, growing your own food, horse and buggies, washing clothes by hand when she was young, rounding up cattle etc. She did all of that, and raised 4 kids, and worked often times! She's a true example to me, and it was a beautiful funeral. One of the things that I think made it the most special was the fact that we KNOW that families are forever!! I WILL see her again one day, and I know she is in a better place, with her family that has passed before, and above all our Heavenly Father!
I love you Grandma, thank you for all that you taught me and all the love you showed me throughout my life. :)
This is one of my favorite photos with her! She was so excited for me being pregnant! And she made Boston the cutest blankets and burp rags.
Ila Larsen Ahrens
Oct. 6, 1919 – Sept. 20, 2012
Today September 20, 2012 in the wee hours of the morning, our beautiful little Mother very reluctantly left our world to finally join our dad and other beloved family members who have been waiting for her beyond the veil. She was 92 years old and though small in stature had the strength and heart of a mighty warrior. She loved her large family and posterity so much she just couldn't let go. But her life and last days were filled with family and love that would touch even the most callused being.
Lorenzo David and Emma Irene (Amy) Welch Larsen were blessed with the birth of a tiny baby girl on October 6, 1919. They named her Emma Ila Larsen. She was the third child of ten. She lived and grew up in Newton, Utah where she had many adventures with her brothers and sisters and her little horse Nell. She loved being active in 4-H and learned at a very early age the value of hard work and determination.
Mother met her sweetheart, Rulon D Ahrens, at a dance in Newton in 1936. They were married for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple on March 30, 1938. They lived in Mendon, Utah and ran the Ahrens family farm. Together they had five children. Mother was very talented and creative in so many ways and often made her children's clothes. In 1953 we moved to Logan, Utah where dad worked on the railroad and mother began her career as a business woman. She took pride in raising her active family, caring for Grandma Ahrens, (dad's mom), keeping a tidy beautiful home, caring for beautiful flower gardens, holding many callings in the church, one of which was Relief Society President and was a professional and dedicated worker as she found her place in the working world. In 1970, mother and dad moved to Ogden to be closer to family. In her lifetime mother was an office manager/chair side assistant for Glen L. Allen DDS, a secretary for the city treasurer for Logan City, admissions secretary for Mr. Meacham at Weber State University of office manager/chair side assistant for Paul Child DDS.
Mother and Dad served a mission in Tallahassee/Jacksonville, Florida mission and worked as officiators in the Ogden Temple together. Mother also served a mission at the Joseph Smith Building in Salt Lake City. Mother was a member of the Daughters of the Utah, the Sego Lily South Camp where she had been secretary, co- captain, captain and on the board. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women of America and was elected President for a term.
On May 7, 1996, after 58 years of wonderful companionship Dad passed away. Mother stayed busy with her callings and as a pink lady at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. There she met Walt Myers. They married on February 14, 2002. Later they were divorced but always cared about each other and remained good friends. At that time she moved into the home of her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Spencer Hawkins in Layton, where she was always surrounded with much love and received the very best of care.
Mother leaves behind four of her children; Rula Brown, Torrance, CA, Janet Hawkins (Spencer), Layton, UT, Glen Ahrens (Susie), West Bountiful, UT and Sharon Wilson Newton (Dave), Syracuse, UT, and daughter-in-law, Julie Ahrens, West Valley, 20 grandchildren, 46.5 great grandchildren, and 3.5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rulon, son, David, her parents, nine siblings, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter. Many thanks to the caring Symbii Hospice nurses, Elisa and Heather and CNA Leslie. But most of all to daughter, Janet and her husband, Spence for all the love and care they provided for Mother.
Please join family and friends for a viewing on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, UT. You are also invited to celebrate mother's life at a funeral service on Monday, September 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Layton Utah Creekside Stake Center, 1480 West Phillips Street, Kaysville, Utah with a viewing at the stake center one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Logan City Cemetery at 3 p.m.
