One Month!!

Wow! Our little Boston has already been here one month!!
It has literally flown by! Maybe because of the lack of sleep, but all the days seem to have kind of run together. We have sure learned a lot and loved a lot this last month, and I want to journal, mainly for myself about some of these milestones.

First off, this emotional, dramatic conversation took place at about 2 and a half weeks old:
Camille- Andrew, Boston is already growing so fast, and getting so big (Me starting to cry)
Andrew- Yeah he is getting bigger...
C- Yeah, but I mean he's really just growing up so fast already! I mean, pretty soon, we'll be sending him off on a mission! (Me really crying now)
A- Cami! He's still tiny! He's not growing up that fast!
Then I just started laughing and crying at the same time! lol I guess it's just cause I'm around him every second, literally. And again, maybe due to the lack of sleep but I've been very emotional. I got choked up when he took his first nap in his big boy crib in his own room! ha ha I had to take pictures! (I pretty much have to take pictures of everything) Look how cute he is though!!!

I am loving how alert he is now! Although I am pretty sure he's always been more alert than most babies. People talk about how their newborns sleep all the time, and they have to wake them up for feedings. That is NOT Boston!! Even in the hospital the first day, his eyes were wide open with excitement, and he LOVES to eat!! He's a great nurser! He gets sooo excited when he knows he's about to be fed! And he makes lots of little noises that make me laugh! He downs a whole feeding in under 15 minutes most of the time. At first, this made me nervous, that he wasn't getting enough, but he's gaining weight just great, and doesn't act hungry again for 2-3 hours. So I'm a pretty happy mama! Here's a pic at his 2 week doctor appointment! He was so brave! He went from 7lbs 2oz (lost 3oz from birth) to 8lbs 3oz at this appointment! :) Putting him in the 35% range.
As far as sleep goes. It's been a little rough, mainly for me. Boston is doing a good job, and progressing well, but I am just a little high maintenance when it comes to sleep and I'll admit it. I require a good 8 hours to function. I used to anyways. So that has been the biggest adjustment is me learning how to function on less, and still be a happy person. At first Boston was swapped on his days and nights for about a week and a half, but after keeping it very bright during the day, and very dark at night he's normal. He only feeds every 3-4 hours during the night, and goes right back to sleep. I think a lot of this is credited to me following Baby Wise! I'm not super strict with it but it's helped us develop a great routine, and we get a lot better sleep!

This last month one thing he is known for, in the mornings especially, is his grunting. He is determined in the early hours of the day to get things moving if you know what I mean. Again, I was a bit concerned about this, but adjusted a few things in my diet like barely any dairy at all, and he's done better, but I also read it's very normal, so now it just makes me laugh, because at about 6am every morning you could swear there was a baby elephant in our room. lol and poor Andrew is trying to enjoy his last moments of rest before heading off to a full day of work and school. But overall things are going very well during the night, and I can only see them getting better from here. :)

He's also been known for his different faces, that keep us laughing often. I can't believe how much his face has changed already as well! His skin has gotten more olivey in color, just like mine and Andrew's, and we're noticing his eyes are starting to have a little more green in them! My Mom comes over about twice a week, and we get the biggest kick out of all of his facial expressions. Put it this way, I have taken way too many pictures, but I'll only post a few.

Our favorite is his "zoolander" face. It's hilarious! See the resemblence?

This face is one you don't particularly want to see at 3am...
he wouldn't go to sleep, but was being very quiet, so I peeked over to see if he was sleeping.... nope! Big blue eyes wide open! Looking at me like, "Hey Mom, yup, I'm still awake!" He has also now realized that I am right next to his bassinett. It is horizontal next to me so that I can reach in easily and rub his head or check on him. I heard him making some noises in the night, and lifted my head to peek at him and make sure things were O.K, and he had arched his head allll the way back and was waiting to see me. It was the cutest thing.

We've been learning things that he loves, like...His carseat, and riding anywhere in the car! He loves baths, and being snuggled in his warm towel out of the dryer right after! He loves his swing, and yes in that pic below it is in the bathroom. I swear it's the only way I get a shower in! The portable swing is a gift from God! :) He also loves sleeping with Mommy instead of his crib which almost never is allowed unless Andrew has just gotten out of bed in the morning and I can give him plenty of space.. Oh and he loves being dressed in handsome little outfits! Ok. that may be stretching it... I should say I love dressing him! lol
And he LOVES to be sung to, and responds very well to it, which is my dream, because I love to sing! So it's definitely part of our daily routine together. His favorite is "I am a Child of God" and I sing it to him before he goes to sleep everytime. Singing to him, and talking to him about Jesus is my favorite part of our day together. Because I think he still remembers Heavenly Father right now, and heaven, and loves hearing about them. :)

I've also learned that Andrew is a great Father.
I knew he would be, but he has exceeded all of my expectations. He is very patient and kind. And he has these hilarious conversations with Boston, that crack me up. When he's trying to get him back to sleep, and letting me rest, I'll hear him talking to him, and these are just a few of the things he's said that make me smile:
"Boston, are you crying because we have a yellow house? It is kind of a wussy color but Mommy loved it so that's why we got it."
"There are a lot of kids in this neighborhood! You're going to have a lot of friends. Most of them are older than you though, so you've gotta be tough, you've gotta be cool."
Right before my Birthday I heard this conversation: "Boston have you decided what we should get Mommy for her birthday yet? Come on man, I'm counting on you for a good idea!"
He always kisses Boston and I before he leaves for the day, and tells Boston to be a good boy, and to be nice to Mommy. I love Andrew so much! :)

Lastly I've learned lots of patience, and that I can feel proud of myself even if all I've done is taken care of Boston and myself all day, and we're fed (possibly dressed) and happy. :)
This last month has been so great, and makes me so happy to look forward to the coming months as a family! Oh and I've already lost 25 of the 30 I gained while pregnant! Which is pretty good considering I haven't started exercising yet! Pretty darn happy about that, but no matter what the cost on my body physically, this sweet little boy was worth it! :)
